One thing that is extremely important to me is giving back. There are some wonderful stories out there of generous people opening their homes to the less fortunate. Recently I heard one about a man that is homeless with no family and reached out through a radio station’s Facebook asking to spend Thanksgiving with a family. He received an overwhelming response and now has a family to spend Christmas with and some folks have even offered him a job. Our country’s people are at odds with each other and we are forgetting the very foundation that has made us a great place to live. More stories like this need to come out. We need to help our less fortunate neighbors. Places like the Second Harvest Food Bank, Salvation Army, homeless shelters and soup kitchens are doing great work but they need our help. I have personally challenged my company to donate 500 cans or boxes to the Second Harvest Food Bank. They said the most needed items right now are canned meats and fish and low salt, canned vegetables. In Nashville, some people have died from sleeping out in the cold. That is unacceptable. With the holidays coming up, people are filled with the Christmas spirit so give to the less fortunate. Or, donate your time. I can tell you these places need volunteers. My wife is a volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank and she tells me all the time how much she enjoys volunteering and everyone there is very appreciative of the help. To whoever reads this, I hope you challenge your company to give to the less fortunate.
