1220 Exhibits brought the new Tennessee Wings of Liberty Museum to life with immersive scenic environments, exhibit graphics, and a transformed MH-47 Chinook helicopter experience.

Overview

For more than two decades, 1220 has proudly partnered with the Tennessee Wings of Liberty Museum, helping bring its vision to life through multiple phases of planning, design, support, and exhibit development. The newly completed museum chronicles the history of the 101st Airborne Division from its formation in 1942 through present-day operations. The museum serves as a tribute to the soldiers, missions, and legacy of one of the most recognized military units in the world, immersing visitors in stories of courage, sacrifice, and service,

A defining feature of the museum is a series of six large-scale tableau environments that transport visitors into key moments throughout the division’s history. These scenically rich installations showcase 1220’s expertise in environmental storytelling through custom-built landscapes, detailed dioramas, and immersive exhibit fabrication. At the heart of the experience is a retired MH-47 Chinook helicopter that was transformed into a fully immersive exhibit. 1220 fabricated and installed custom scenic exterior elements surrounding the aircraft, creating a realistic setting that places visitors on the front lines of combat and deepens their connections to the stories being told.

1220 provided the production and installation of all graphic panels and environmental graphics, audiovisual systems, and immersive media equipment, theatrical track lighting, specialty lighting, and integrated control systems. Our team also created custom artifact mounts, scenic floor treatments, and exhibit finishes while carefully dismantling, relocating, and reinstalling existing exhibits from the museum’s previous location. The result is a dynamic and engaging destination that honors the legacy of the 101st Airborne while delivering an unforgettable visitor experience for generations to come.
