At 1220, we build a lot of things: exhibits, experiences, and occasionally, some very intense belt sander race brackets. But just as important as the work we do in the shop is the time we spend together outside of it.

The Heartbeat of Our Company: The Team

We know that our team is the heartbeat of this company. They’re the ones who bring the ideas to life by loading trucks before dawn, solving problems mid-install, sanding, painting, lifting, building, and showing up with creativity and commitment every single day. Their work is hands-on, detailed, and often behind the scenes, but it’s the reason we’re able to deliver on every project we take on. It’s not just what they build, it’s how they show up for each other, take pride in their craft, and push through challenges with skill and grit. That kind of dedication deserves to be supported and celebrated.

That is why we’re intentional about making space for moments that aren’t about work — the kind that give us a chance to relax, reconnect, and remind ourselves we’re more than just coworkers. These moments outside the shop are just as important to our culture as the ones on the floor. It’s taking time to appreciate the people who make 1220 what it is, and showing them that the effort they put in every day doesn’t go unnoticed.

Creating a Culture That Builds More Than Just Exhibits: Companies With Great Culture

This June, we kicked off our new summer tradition of a company night out with a trip to a Nashville Sounds game. It was a simple idea: a night off the clock to relax, hang out, and enjoy the weather, but one that had a big impact. Rather than capturing the night on our phones, we brought along a few Instax cameras and let our team loose with them. The result? A stack of tiny film photos capturing big moments that we can keep and reminisce on for forever (they all now live in the shop break room).

The Nashville Sounds game was the perfect backdrop for our night out — a warm summer night, a packed stadium, and plenty of hot dogs to go around. We had a great view of the field and even better company in the stands. It wasn’t about the final score so much as having the chance to unwind, catch up, and enjoy a night away from the shop. From the all-you-can-eat picnic to the seventh inning stretch, it was exactly the kind of break our team deserved. As a fun bonus, we had special custom hats made just for the occasion — a limited run designed exclusively for our team as a keepsake. Part collectors’ item, part uniform for the night, the hats were a small but meaningful way to commemorate a great evening together and a memory to take home.

We’re already looking forward to what the rest of the year brings: new projects, more shared wins, and a few more moments like this to step back and celebrate the people behind it all.
