1220 Exhibits: we are a leading exhibit design and fabrication company that creates immersive experiences for museums, corporations, and cultural institutions. If you’re looking for a dynamic work environment where creativity, precision, and attention to detail are highly valued, then you’ve come to the right place. We’re currently hiring for two key roles: fabrication craftsman and scenic artist. Let’s dive into the specifics of each role and what you can expect on a day-to-day basis.
Fabrication Craftsman
As a fabrication craftsman, you would be responsible for building and assembling exhibit components using a variety of tools and materials. This includes everything from framing, carpentry, metalworking, electrical wiring, and painting. We’re looking for someone who has experience in at least one of these areas and is eager to learn and grow in the others. In this role, you’ll work closely with the project manager and other team members to ensure that projects are completed on time and to our high standards of quality. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a strong work ethic are essential qualifications for this role.
A typical “day in the office” for a craftsman might include measuring and cutting materials, assembling and testing exhibit components, troubleshooting problems, and collaborating with other team members to ensure that projects are progressing smoothly. You might spend your morning cutting and sanding wood for a custom display case, and your afternoon wiring and testing interactive exhibit elements. At 1220 Exhibits, every day is different, and there’s always a new challenge to tackle.
Scenic Artist
As a scenic artist, you would be responsible for bringing exhibits to life through painting, texturing, and finishing surfaces to match a specific design aesthetic. This includes everything from creating murals, faux finishes, and scenic backdrops, to applying finishes to metal and wood surfaces. We’re looking for someone who has experience in painting, drawing, or graphic design and is eager to apply their skills to a new context. Attention to detail, a strong sense of color and composition, and the ability to work collaboratively are essential qualifications for this role.
A day in the life of a scenic artist might include priming and painting a large mural, mixing and applying texture to a sculptural element, or collaborating with other team members to create a cohesive visual narrative for an exhibit. You might spend your morning sketching out a concept for a new exhibit element, and your afternoon mixing custom paint colors and applying them to a faux finish. In our shop, creativity is king, and you’ll have the opportunity to flex your artistic muscles every day.
At 1220 Exhibits, we pride ourselves on our collaborative, supportive work environment. We’re a close-knit team that values open communication, creative problem-solving, and a willingness to go above and beyond to create exceptional exhibits. If you’re excited about the idea of working with a group of passionate, talented individuals to bring amazing projects to life, we encourage you to learn more about our company culture and values.
