Museum Attractions: Crafting Cultural Experiences in Your Backyard
Museums attractions, nestled within your city or state, are the getaways to unlocking the rich heritage and history of your region. These attractions are not stagnant displays but immersive experiences that transport you through various places, time, cultures, and significant historical events.
1220 Exhibits recognizes the profound impact of these types of attractions on cultural tourism. Let’s explore some of our latest projects that have captured the attention of tourists and locals alike.
Virginia Museum of History & Culture
The Virginia Museum of History & Culture stands as a testament to the rich tapestry or Virginia’s history and culture. As part of a museum renovation project, 1220 Exhibits undertook the fabrication and installation of 8300 square feet of new exhibits. Some of these new exhibits included the Great Hall, Treasures of Virginia, History Matters, Family Gallery, and Our Commonwealth.
These exhibits not only showcase new acquisitions and treasures from Virginia’s history but also provide interactive experiences for visitors. In the Family Gallery, kids can engage with museum activities, fostering an early love for history and culture. “Our Commonwealth” features living murals that vividly portray the diverse geography and people of Virginia, adding depth to the interpretive displays.
1220 Exhibits also designed and fabricated mounts for approximately 300 artifacts, creating a visually stunning and educational experience. With an eye for detail, 1220 utilized graphic production methods, from wall murals to fabric banners, ensuring that every exhibit space came alive with history.
State Historical Society of Iowa: A Journey Through Local Heritage
The State Historical Society of Iowa embarked on a building complex renovation to create a more inviting space for visitors eager to explore Iowa’s history. As part of this transformation, 1220 Exhibits played a crucial role in updating the Library and Archives Iowa History Research Center.
The entrance sets the tone for visitors, featuring a map of Iowa from the museum’s collection as the backdrop for striking 3-dimensional lettering. Central display areas with four cases provide flexibility for rotating themes, drawing on different aspects of the collection. These cases include drawers for additional flat object displays, ensuring that the breadth of Iowa’s history is on full display.
Murals depicting the north, south, east, and west of Iowa add depth to the visitor experience. They wanted to ensure that guests from all parts of the State felt represented when visiting. This commitment to inclusivity and preserving Iowa’s heritage is evident through the Research Library and Archives.
Audubon Aquarium: Exploring the Wonders of the Insect World
The Audubon Nature Institute’s Aquarium & Insectarium underwent a multi-million dollar renovation, and 1220 Exhibits played a pivotal role in bringing the world of insects to life. 1220 supplied and installed various interactive and ambient audiovisual monitors and audio systems within the exhibit spaces.
One of the standout features of this project was the creation of vivariums to house various insects, including scorpions and butterflies. These units had to adhere to strict regulations set by the United States Department of Agriculture. These regulations ensure the safety and well-being of the creatures within. The exhibit spaces received a fresh, immersive look, with unique claddings such as painted panels, graphic murals, mirrors, and dimensional scenic theming that complemented the displayed insects.
Additionally, 1220 Exhibits produced a series of two- and three-dimensional graphics and murals. These graphics and murals title the exhibit spaces and label the animals and plants. These visual elements played a vital role in enhancing the visitor experience, making the Aquarium’s insect world come alive.
