When summer in the South hits its peak, the sweltering heat can make outdoor activities less appealing. Fortunately, Louisiana offers a range of indoor attractions that provide both comfort and excitement. If you’re looking for ways to escape the heat while indulging in some cultural enrichment, check out these remarkable museums and aquariums that 1220 Exhibits has had the pleasure of working on over the past five years. Each location not only showcases Louisiana’s unique heritage but also demonstrates the impressive capabilities of 1220 Exhibits in creating immersive experiences.
1. National WWII Museum: Liberation Pavilion
Located in New Orleans, the National WWII Museum’s Liberation Pavilion is a testament to the power of storytelling through exhibits. Spanning nearly 15,000 sq. ft., this hall features a variety of interactive and immersive elements. Some of these include personal stories, iconic imagery, and impactful artifacts. A standout feature is the two-story Confetti Wall, which replicates a ticker-tape parade using over 100 backlit, laser-cut galvanized panels. The Salt Mine gallery, a meticulous recreation of Hitler’s hidden art repository, showcases our dedication to detail and craftsmanship. This project, completed in October 2023, highlights how history can be brought to life through thoughtful design and engineering.
2. Audubon Aquarium and Insectarium
The Audubon Aquarium and Insectarium in New Orleans underwent a major revitalization with the help of 1220 Exhibits. Our team enhanced the space with custom-built insect vivariums and vibrant, immersive fabric graphics. The aquarium now features a two-story video wall, motion-activated projection, and a 20 ft. tall Cypress Tree housing a Screech Owl enclosure. With a focus on creating an authentic Louisiana Bayou experience, we used durable materials and protective coatings to ensure the exhibits withstand the region’s fluctuating climate. This project, completed in June 2023, combines the latest interactive technology with environmental design to create a memorable visit.
3. Vue Orleans
One of our other favorite Louisiana museums – Vue Orleans. Vue Orleans offers an unparalleled immersive journey through New Orleans, blending advanced technologies with rich cultural experiences. Visitors start their adventure in the panoramic Vue River Theater, where they can explore local history, music, and even design their own Mardi Gras costumes. The experience culminates on a 360-degree observation deck with breathtaking views of the city. 1220 Exhibits contributed to this project with custom signage, murals, interactive stations, and detailed casework. These features created an engaging and high-tech environment. Completed in March 2022, Vue Orleans is a perfect example of how modern technology can enhance cultural storytelling.
4. Port Wonder
Currently under development, Port Wonder promises to be an exciting addition to Louisiana’s roster of attractions. Scheduled to open in the fall of this year, this project is set to showcase 1220 Exhibits’ expertise in creating dynamic and interactive environments. Stay tuned for more updates and amazing photos as we put the finishing touches on this highly anticipated space.
