To breathe new life into some of the Aquarium’s most treasured spaces, 1220 was brought on board to create a world of immersive exhibits. New, custom built glass insect vivariums with top-of-the-line life safety equipment were fabricated to house insects never previously on display while past loved exhibits were painstakingly refurbished to enhance the new larger space. Vibrant, overarching fabric graphics and interactive AV exhibits, including a two-story video wall and a motion activated projection wall, are woven throughout the galleries’ 68,000 sq. ft. space. 1220’s Scenic and AVI departments joined forces to create a 20 ft. tall Cypress Tree housing a Screech Owl enclosure complete with cameras and a viewing monitor incorporated within the scenic tree’s root system and hanging Spanish Moss. These exhibits, along with an integrated AVI soundscape, work to create an experience straight out of the Louisiana Bayou.
New interactive and informative graphics comprised of direct printed scenically themed substrates, large-scale tension fabric and wallpaper murals span throughout the indoor psace while high pressure laminate prints and speciality materials comprise the exterior and within the animal enclosures themselves. With the challenges of New Orleans’s fluctuating climate and the safety considerations of the insects and animals, 1220’s speciality scenic treatments like resin protective coating and the durable HPL graphics ensure the exhibits will last for many years to come.
