“Beyond the Battle” explores Adams County’s history from prehistory to the present, emphasizing natural history, indigenous peoples, early settlers, and the contributions of enslaved individuals to the county’s development. The three-day Civil War battle in Gettysburg is a central narrative, featuring an immersive experience called “Caught in the Crossfire,” where visitors enter a scenically recreated Civil War-era home and experience the sights, sounds, and emotions of a Gettysburg family under siege.
1220’s Scenic department crafted a 12-foot-tall replica of the Devil’s Den rock formation, enhanced with projection mapping, to introduce visitors to the museum and the region. Guests can interact with actual dinosaur fossils from the area, integrated into a tactile exhibit. Scenic recreations of a frontier cabin and a Revolutionary-era tavern surround artifacts and interpretive panels, vividly conveying the county’s history. Custom-built display cases showcase a significant collection of artifacts, illustrating life in Adams County before, during, and after the Civil War.
The experience is further enriched by nearly a dozen linear and interactive media programs, custom projection mapping, and ambient sounds and lighting, all expertly integrated by 1220’s AVI department. A wide range of graphic production techniques—such as direct printing on diverse substrates, vibrant wallpaper murals, custom dimensional letters, vinyl lettering, and second-surface acrylic printing—are employed throughout “Beyond the Battle,” ensuring a compelling and unforgettable visitor experience.
